PT PERTAMA MINA SUTRA PERKASA (PMSP) is an affiliated company of PT BANGUN ARTA MINERAL, a Surabaya, East Java-based producer of limestone and its derivatives. Both companies are members of BANGUN ARTA GROUP, with the former responsible for quarrying activities and the latter of product development and marketing.
PMSP currently operates a limestone quarry in East Java under the Production Operation IUP issued by the Regent of Jember in December 2012. The quarry covers a concession area of 36.88 ha and is located on the limestone hill of Bukit Sadeng, at an elevation of up to 190 meters above sea level, in the coastal village of Grenden, Puger district, approximately 40 km south of the downtown of Jember and 220 km southest of the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya. The location can be reached in an approximately four-hour drive from Surabaya through Probolinggo, Lumajang, Rambipuji (Jember), and Grenden.
Based on the 2011 appraisal by PT SURVEYOR INDONESIA, the PMSP quarry is esitmated to contain a hypothetical reserve of up to 48 million tons of limestone deposited down to 90 meters in depth from the surface.
The PMSP quarry produces high-calcium limestone cotaining greater than 99% calcium carbonate (CaCo3). The limestoneis primarily used as feedstock for limekilns to produce burnt lime (CaO) through calcination at high temperature, with operations managed by Bangun Arta Mineral. The product is sold to domestic, markets in meeting customer needs, which mainly consists of feed mill, paper mill, glass factory, and smelter companies.
For sea delivery, the product is shipped via a private stokpile and jetty at Gresik Port, which is operated in cooperation with PT PELINDO. The stockpile has a capacity of 25,000 tons and occupies a total area of 5,000 square meters completed with a barge loading conveyor, through which the limestone product is loaded directly onto vessels with a capacity of 500 tons per hour.
Based on the Group’s Master Plan, the 2014 strategic focus is to strenghthen positioning in burnt lime market by developing a new lime kiln with a capacity of up to 150 tons per day. Managed by BANGUN ARTA MINERAL, the plan is to construct a modern kiln in order to support expanding markets, especially to the rapidly growing local smelter industry, as well as to become the main access to penetrate international markets while introducing the product under “BANGUN ARTA” brands.
